Men Wanted:
Can You Help?

Every $20 helps!

From time to time, people write to MenWeb to ask us for help in getting men's perspectives on issues, or finding a men's group or help for a man in a particular area. We'll post these here, and ask you to respond.

My name is Elina Furman and I am working on a book called "Heartbreaker: The Real Reasons He Broke Up with You" for St. Martin's Press. I have written over twenty books, but this should be the most interesting. This book is a collection of essays from men detailing some of their more memorable breakups.

American Men's Studies Association Call for Papers

Dear Bert,

I thought that the MenWeb readers may be interested in the following:

CALL FOR PAPERS, PRESENTATIONS AND PANELS

The American Men's Studies Association is now accepting proposals for its 8th annual conference on March 24-26, 2000, at the State University of New York at Buffalo. The Association is interested in proposals that evaluate current scholarship in men's studies, advance the field, examine diverse masculinities, and explore the practice of men's studies both inside and outside of academic life. We are especially interested in proposals that focus on the intersection of men's studies scholarship and professional practice.

Please send concise proposals of 500 words or less, by email to Mark Kann (mkann@usc.edu) and Vicki Sommer (sosommer@augustana.edu). The deadline is November 19, 1999.

If you have any questions, please contact Anthony Lanzillo (alanzillo@aol.com).

Thanks.

Tony Lanzillo

Survivors' Art
MenWeb has received a solicitation for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to submit their art.

Hi,
I'm writing to you because I need to ask for a favor. I am co-organizing an art show for survivors of sexual abuse and assault. It will be a traveling exhibit and anyone can submit artwork. We are currently looking at bringing the exhibit to The University of Virginia in December/January and then to Union College in February. We have offers from several other colleges to host the exhibit, but have not determined where it will go after Union. We need help getting the word out to survivors, so that many people will have the chance to submit work. I was wondering if you would be willing to put a banner up on your site. The main page of the site is located at: http://www1.union.edu/~kiddere/artshow.html and the banners are located at: http://www1.union.edu/~kiddere/linktoartshow.html. Also, if you know of anyone who might like to submit work, you can print out an entry form by going here: http://www1.union.edu/~kiddere/Show.PDF

Thank you so much,
Lis Kidder

I was wondering if you could post a message about this project on your web site. Submissions should range from one to seven pages, and should be as brutally honest as possible. All essays could be emailed to Faivel1@aol.com or mailed to Elina Furman PO Box 1196, New York, NY 10021-0037. Deadline is November 1, 1999.

Thank you,
Elina Furman<

Men's Groups

We're always being asked if we know of a men's council or men's group in a particular area of the country. What we know about is listed on our Men's Councils page. What we'd like to have is a comprehensive list of men's groups around the country. MenWeb can function as a clearinghouse for that. Click here to see the requests and responses we've received.
